Why you should love $5 gas??

More expensive gas could be a good thing? Appraently, there are some possible benefits. See the list below...What do you think?

Fewer people will die on the road. The less you drive, the more likely you will survive.

Shorter security lines. Soon, hardly anyone will be able to afford to fly willy-nilly around the country or globe. You will breeze through the maze of airport checkpoints.

Less pollution. Less driving means cleaner air.

High prices lead to lower prices. If gas prices rise enough, the government will open up areas now closed to oil production, and oil companies will be able to invest in more-expensive methods of extracting oil. Soon we will be drowning in the stuff, and prices will drop again.

More exercise. It can't hurt to walk the three blocks to the grocery or bike to school or work.

Local businesses may profit. If you can't afford to drive out to the Wal-Mart or The Home Depot, you may be buying instead at the local supermarket or neighborhood hardware store. In addition, as the cost of transporting, say, grapes from Chile, goes out of sight, you may turn to regional farmers for your produce.

What do you think? Do you love it? Is there anything you could like about it?

  1. it is nice to see some people are optimistic about higher gas problems, but i am still annoyed by the $5 a gallon. yes higher gas might be good, but it takes like a whole paycheck to fill your tank, so really higher gas prices are not good at all.

  2. I think that these are some good points brought up. But sometimes it is hard to find local jobs and then it is really annoying to have to pay so much for gas.

  3. I think all those are good points and make sence. But I also think that im going to go broke and have to sit at my house and starve to death because I cant afford to get to town to buy food. I just think $5 is outragous.

  4. I think that it won't really matter, and it sounds good that people would start driving less. Personally, I think it's something that we need and we may drive a little less than we do now. But people will still be buying it no matter, because we are not use to living without it.

  5. These are really good points they brought up, and they make a lot of sense. It could help out our economy a little bit, in way. But, I still think $5 a gallon is ridiculous. People still may need to drive places and they're not going to want to spend that much on gas. What do people do that live hours away and want to see their family? Just not. I still think they should lower it, no matter what the good points are.

  6. I think the high gas prices are good. Although, I personally do not enjoy paying so much. It would be so much easier of gas was cheap.

  7. I understand the points they come up with and are pretty smart. But i absolutely hate how expensive gas is because its rediculous. Its eventually gunna make fewer and fewer people drive but thats mainly gunna be in bigger cities. Gas should be cheaper because it is needed for just about everything.

  8. deffinately not very smart person. author can't spell. i wouldn't like to trot 15 miles to go to town just for a candy bar. cars are economical now so i don't think pollution is a problem. kind of wondering if the person or committee who controls gas prices will get the nobel peace prize. if you get it for saying that the globe is warm or being the first black prez. sounds like cleaner air might as well win you one just as well

  9. I can see the points that they brought up. But gas being that expensive would in the end kill the economy.

  10. There may be some good points but when the gas prices rise people are going to travel and go places less. Then when people go places and travel less, less money is circulalted which could cause the economy to go bad.

  11. These are really good points that they bring up, but $5 a gallon is just pushing too far. For me living 12 miles out of town I'm not going to walk or ride bike that far to get food and it isn't that easy to just start producing your own food. We need to be able to drive and get places without it costing a fortune just to get to town.

  12. I think it's sweet and everything about the local businesses but for the total economy for the transfering of neccesities through semi's and whatever is going to make all prices rise! So I do think these are good points and maybe people will start to think local but there's also some negatives to the situation.

  13. I think its not a good thing. Yeah the person makes good points but kids need to drive to school and have sports and they can't ride the late bus and with gas prices at that much its would just be tough. And some people need to commute for their jobs so they can provides for their families and when gas goes up so much like that it makes it harder. Gas prices need to be affordable to the majority of the people otherwise our economy will have a lot of troubles.

  14. The economy is a downfall either way.. Going green is not always the answer to the problem. It's dumb that gas prices are getting up to $5 a gallon. And the article said that the less you drive, the more likely you are to survive. That's not even true. Look at how many people can die just from their jobs like logging.. Are we going to ban logging now to so that people are more likely to survive? No, that's stupid. It's dumb that gas is as high as it is and I still buy it and drive to walmart versus the stupid local grocery store. People are going to keep buying gas as long as they need it because you can't just get around buying something when it's a huge part of your day. And look at the people who drive for a living, such as truck drivers, any kind of company reps, and so one, gas prices are killing their income..

  15. This is very true, but I live a long way from town so I can ride bike to work or school. It's just to far. I like that people think positive about it all, but it would be easier for me if I didn't have to spend all my money on gas.

  16. i believe its absolutely ridiculous that the prices are going to $5/gallon! With the economy the way it is, its harder to afford paying for gas to go to work. I know someone who is able to charge gas at a local gas station, but her job is 30 minutes away from her house, and it is a low paying job, so by the time her pay check comes, all its good for is paying her gas bill, she doesn't have extra cash for other bills or necissities. Granite, gas is high, but people are willing to pay because they need their jobs to suppport their family. Especially living so far out of town.

  17. It is good that people are optimistic about the gas prices, but unlike other countries such as Finland we don't have a good network of transportation. Just because gas prices are high doesn't mean that people can just stop going to work, people can cut back yeah, but if you live in the country how are you supposed to buy food. Are you supposed to bike 30 miles one way to get the resources you need? I think the economy is bad and we all just have to live with it.

  18. I really like the optimistic points that were brought up, but realistically gas that expensive is too much. I mean higher prices in cities seems a little easier since for them walking somewhere might not be as bad. But I live at least 20 miles from work and to walk or bike there would be insane. It's not so easy for people in the middle of nowhere to not use gas to get somewhere. It is true that no matter what the price people will still buy it because we don't know really how to live without it, but in some cases we shouldn't have to. As for Ben's comment about going 15 miles to town for a candy bar, higher prices would definitely put an end to people wasting gas on something so little that we don't need, in that sense i feel that higher prices are good. But overall I feel that 5$ is way too much money to be paying for gas.

  19. These are all good things but im not a fan. People should walk and go to local stores anyway, price of gas should still be down much lower. We can do good things and still drive, but what if you really do need to go somewhere? its becoming difficult..

  20. I think its a pretty good thing actually because people are getting lazy and if we werent able to drive it would either force people to walk or bike, or car pool and start to interact with other people again.

  21. I agree with the optimistic ideas and that those local stores will get more business, but also we must think about the people that NEED to drive far away for their business and the people that need to fly to different states so that they can provide business in other states. Overall these ideas are good but yet there is some other major problems that need to be looked at with the rise of gas prices.

  22. i think that all these points make sense. but i still don't think that we should pay five dollars for gas people won't make enough money to live then because we will be putting all are money in the gas tank.

  23. 5 DOLLAR GAS.. HOLY F.. 5 bucks is alot of money to an old finlander, they had 8 (decent) paragraphs with good points to raise gas.. but im pretty there are alot of ppl that could right a whole book on why gas shouldnt be 5 dollars for ~ONE~ gallon!

  24. um lol my parents pay for my gas so i dont have to worry about it yet lol but besides that i think it is F.ING ridiculous that this is happening seriously WTF

    ReplyDelete
  25. and plus the world is already ruined so yea what ever

    ReplyDelete
  26. yes prices might not be as bad for people who can afford to drive less but it takes all the money i make from drill to keep gas in the tank so if i get anymore expences im sol but when gas was cheeper it wasnt nearly as bad

  27. I liked it when gas was 2 dollars... Even though this doesn't have any affect on me.

  28. I think they are thinking good but what about the jobs I think if gas goes up our wages should go up because if you drive everyday and gas is five dollars your going to go backwards on your other bills. if they dont want to have higher paying jobs they should lower the gas back to where a normal man can afford it.........
