Egypt Revolution...what was life like?
Yesterday we watched a 60 Minutes special on the revolution in Egypt. We did not really learn that much about what life was like under the autocrat Mubarak.
Research this and post something for us to read! What was life like for the people? Why did they revolt? How much control did the dictator have over their lives?

I learned that the egypt revolution is also known as Egyptian Protests, Days of Rage, the Papyrus Revolution and the Lotus Revolution. People took to the streets to protest poverty, rampant unemployment, government corruption and autocratic governance of President Hosni Mubarak.
ReplyDeletei learned the same things that taylor learned
ReplyDeleteJacob! You can't just say I learned what Taylor did! :) Surely, there is something else you can learn.
ReplyDeleteWhat were living conditions like?
ReplyDeleteI researched this topic further at touregypt.net. This featured information on what the conditions were like, according to someone who lived there. Over 40% of the men are illiterate. It's even a higher percentage for women. It is a country known for over population and poverty. Some wages were very low, because of inflation.Prices of goods are high and working conditions are not good. There is still protests going on in the streets.
Why did they revolt?
According to nytimes.com, the cause of the revolt was because of working conditions. The people wanted higher wages, changes in management, and more solutions.
How much control did the dictator have over the people?
According to Jewishworldreview.com, Mubarak was sending the country into a economic turmoil. He didn't treat the poor and rich fairly. He had control over basically everything. It believed in the emergency law rule, which allowed for thousands of people to be abused by police officials.
The revolt in Egypt (or in other words the protests) were quite violent what everyone that was involved with the protests. The people were so violent that they were tearing up the streets to use the street rubble to throw at the miltary. Many people were injured to the cause of revolting against the government, and as to my knowledge only one person was killed during to the revolt, whose name translated to "Eternal Happiness" in so the the revoltutions made their slogan with that mans name in it.
ReplyDeletei learned that cleansing rituals were very important to the Egyptians. Most people bathed daily in the river or out of a water basin at home. The wealthy had a separate room in their home to bath.
