Protesters rally for 6th day at Wisconsin Capitol

On Saturday, 68,000 prItalicotestors gathered in Madison ,Wisconsin at the capitol to protest new Wi. governor Scott Walker's plan to eliminate most public employees right to collectively bargain.
The Republican controlled state legislature seemed ready to easily pass this legislation, until Democratic legislators fled the state and went into hiding making a vote impossible because there was no longer a quorum.

Walker says he wants to eliminate some collective bargaining rights to help balance the budget of Wisconsin. Other governors in Ohio, Iowa, Indiana, Florida and New Jersey are considering similar legialation, Minnesota is also proposing legislation that would limit collective bargaining rights.

Public schools in Madison, and many other districts throughout the state, were closed due to teachers who had taken time off to protest at the capital. Many union supporters from Minnesota and surrounding states have also joined the protests.

  1. I think these people are just being little babies... who cares if they work and arent a part of a union. There are plenty of other people who work and they are just fine. So I think that ther state shouild pass it and those democratic cowards should just come out from hiding and vote on the thing.

  2. This is crazy, teachers and students not being able to get an education because of this new bill that the gov. wants to pass. They wouldnt make new bills if they didnt think that there would be a better out come in the long run. I don't know if i agree with this bill but i wouldnt go stand in front of the capital because of it.

  3. I don't think they should pass it, because this is obviously a big issue if you have to close schools. Unions haven't been that big of deal in the news that I've noticed so I don't see why it is a big deal now.

  5. This is an interesting bill. I don't know what I think about it. It's crazy that the state is getting hardcore about it, and cancelling. I'm really thinking this is kind of a worthless bill though. I don't think I agree.

  6. I think that anyone that is at the rally who called in sick so that they could go, should be fired. Do it on your own time.

  7. i think that protesting like that is silly, yet wisconsin does need some publicity so i guess it is good that they are protesting, and the bill shouldn't get passed because people don't need to be in a union to be able to work.

  8. I don't think this bill should be passed. Any company should be allowed to have a union. I don't think they should be protesting about it either. School and things are being closed for this so it is just creating a bigger issue than what it needs to be.

  9. What these people need to do is leave the capital and let the governors do their job. The people of that were the ones who hired him so they should have looked more into or payed more attention to his campaign. They need to stop with the protest and get back to their jobs because how are they going to take care of their kids (if they any) and how are the students going to get a proper education if none of the teachers are there to teach them. I bet that all of the students that helped with the protest won't be graduating since they failed their classes from being absent for such a long time, or that they will not understand what they are learning anymore because the substitute teachers won't know what too teach them.

  11. This is creating much controversy in Wisconsin. If tons of people are protesting against it, just don't pass it. I think it's becoming a much bigger deal than it needs to be, especially since schools are shutting down. This is hurting the education of many kids! Plus, individuals need to realize that they are the ones who elected the govener. You put him there so you must deal with what he wants.
